Winning God’s Favor
Acts 13:22 — “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.”
1 Samuel 16:7 — “The Lord does not look at the things people look at… the Lord looks at the heart.”
Psalm 51:17 — “A broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.”
Proverbs 3:3–4 — “Let love and faithfulness never leave you… then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
2 Chronicles 16:9 — “For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”
David wasn’t perfect—he was repentant. He wasn’t flawless—he was faithful. What put David in God’s favor was not performance but posture. He ran toward God when he failed, trusted God when afraid, worshiped God when alone, and obeyed God when it cost him. God’s favor rests on hearts that stay soft, honest, surrendered, and willing. When you choose humility over pride, obedience over impulse, and repentance over excuses, you step into the same favor David walked in.
lyrics from Zeb of Virginia Beach Church and theholygospel.net
from his song “This Life Of Worship”
this life of worship
this life for you
because you first loved me, Jesus
and oh now how I love you
what does it mean to be blinded?
what does it mean to now see?
I now can feel and see your actions and guidance
working through moving through love from you in me!
this life of worship Jesus
this life of worship Lord
people say don’t you desire
People say don’t you aspire?
people all want to inquire
why I am so happy as never before.
because i have let go what I don’t need
what I do need they may not see
it’s not on or around or inside of me
because it’s not me that I’m living for
this life of worship Jesus
this life of worship Lord
“Lord, shape my heart like David’s—honest, humble, and fully Yours.”
“Winning God’s Favor”
(~50 seconds – No Director’s Cues)
DARIUS sits in his car outside his office, gripping the wheel. He just lied in a meeting to cover a mistake—again.
Voice, weary:
“I thought success meant favor. But inside, I was crumbling.”
That night, he reads David’s prayer: “A broken and contrite heart you will not despise.”
No excuses. Just honesty.
Next morning, he confesses the truth to his boss—expects to be fired.
Instead, his boss says, “I’ve been waiting for you to be real.”
And in that moment, Darius felt the grace of the Lord through his boss—keeping him, protecting him, offering him undeserved favor.
He keeps his job—but more, he regains his peace.
Now, he mentors a new hire—not for credit, but because grace changed him.
Voice, softened:
“Favor isn’t about being flawless. It’s about being faithful—even when you fail.”
Final shot: Darius walks into work, head high, not because he’s perfect—but because he’s known… and loved anyway.
