Grief Doesn’t Get the Last Word—God Does
Psalm 34:18 — “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Isaiah 61:3 — “He will bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning…”

John 11:35 — “Jesus wept.”

2 Corinthians 1:3–4 — “Praise be to the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles…”

Revelation 21:4 — “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…”

Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Grief is the echo of love in an empty space. But a relationship with God doesn’t rush to fill that space—it sanctifies it. He doesn’t dismiss sorrow; He enters it. Jesus wept before He raised Lazarus. He was acquainted with grief so He could carry ours. When we bring our loss to Him—not as a problem to solve, but as a wound to hold—His presence becomes the steady ground beneath our trembling. Joy returns not because pain vanishes, but because **we are never alone in it**. And one day, every tear will be redeemed. Until then, He stays.
Lord, I don’t need answers right now—I need You near. Hold my grief. Anchor my heart. Remind me that even in loss, I am known, loved, and carried. Amen.
Lyrics by Zeb of Virginia Beach
from his song All I Wanna Do Is Cry, Cry, Cry (Teardrops Of Joy)
I was walking in this country in this world of doubt and pain
So many times I did walk that walk but now I won’t be going there again
I live in a different land now people I live in a different world
tears of fear and grief are gone under this flag of Peace and Love unfurled
when Jesus carried the cross to Mt Calvary
He walked that walk for you and me
with every drop of blood and every tear
He washed away our sins and fears
His love so pure his love so real Ask for His love it will be revealed
His Goodness and power lights my sky. Yes that’s a teardrop you see in my eye!

from his song “Go To Church Anyway”
If you got drunk again tonight, if you just can’t get it right
if you’re sad or angry and can’t just let it go
come Sunday, go to church anyway

it’s a place for the broken, the lost and confused,
the lonely, the lustful and the abused
Jesus ate with sinners and He’ll break bread with you
so come next Sunday here’s the thing to do

Go to church anyway Jesus is the truth, the life, the way
we’ll laugh, we’ll sing, we’ll cry, we’ll pray
So come Sunday, go to church anyway

Are you wandering? Without a home?
Come to Jesus, you’ll be no longer alone
Come on sinner, come on home!

if you’re tired and you’re weary and your eyesight is blurred and bleary
if you’re walkin on rocky ground and you’ve gone astray
come Sunday, go to church anyway

“Grief Doesn’t Get the Last Word”**

Grief isn’t weakness—it’s love with nowhere to go.
But in God, it finds a place to land.

When my cat died last year, I didn’t just miss her—I felt abandoned by joy itself.
Then I remembered: **God knows loss**.
He buried His Son. He wept at Lazarus’ tomb. He holds every tear in a bottle.

So I stopped pretending.
I brought my raw ache straight to Him—not as a prayer to fix it, but as worship: *“You see this. You stay.”*

And slowly, His presence became the bridge over the void.
Not by erasing memory—but by filling the silence with Himself.

Because grief says, *“It’s gone.”*
But relationship with God whispers, *“I’m still here.”*
