Jesus Is the Boss Even Over King David

Matthew 22:45 — “If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”

Psalm 110:1 — “The Lord says to my lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.’”
Isaiah 9:6 — “And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Revelation 22:16 — “I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
Colossians 1:17 — “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Hebrews 13:8 — “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Jesus told the Sadducees and Pharisees that even though He came from David’s family, He was still David’s Lord. That means Jesus isn’t just a king like David — He is the King over everyone. Today, this reminds us that Jesus is bigger, stronger, and wiser than any person who ever lived. We follow Him because He is God’s Son, and He loves us, leads us, and takes care of us better than anyone else ever could.

song lyrics by Zeb of Virginia Beach and theholygospel.net

from his song “King Of Everything”
He is in every song we sing
He is the king of everything
he wakes the flowers in the Spring
he is the king of everything

from his song “Do You Know Him?”
do you know Him, really know Him, do you know Him?
He’s my King

from his song “Just Say Yes”
i know one man and the corner he rules
is the size of all that is
and his heart is even bigger so
his gift to all of us is all of this

All of the love all of the peace
everything we really want
and all we gotta do is just say yes
just say yes
yeah just say yes
it is the key to the kingdom
just say yes to Jesus

Let us pray: “Jesus, help me remember that You are my King and my Lord. Teach me to listen to You and trust You every day.”

“Jesus Is the Boss—Even Over King David”
(~1 min 20 sec – No Director’s Cues)

MIA, late 20s, walks the city—earbuds in, playlist preaching, “You’re the CEO of your life.”
She’s got plans, progress… but no peace.

One Sunday, she steps into a church.
Hears the pastor say: “David—the greatest king Israel knew—called Jesus ‘Lord.’ So Jesus isn’t just David’s son. He’s his King.”

That sticks.
If David bows… why am I trying to rule my own life?

She plays Zeb’s song on repeat:
“He is the King of everything… All you gotta do is just say yes.”

No dramatic moment. Just a quiet morning, burnt toast in hand, and a whisper:
“Okay, Jesus. You’re King. I’m not.”

She starts reading. Listening. Letting go.
Learns He’s not just a helper—He’s the Root and Offspring of David, the Prince of Peace, the One before all things, in whom all things hold together.

Now, the city noise hasn’t changed—but she has.
She doesn’t need to be in charge.
Her King walks with her. Leads her. Loves her.

Final voice, calm and sure:
“All I had to do… was say yes.”

Fade to dawn light over rooftops. A single star fades as morning comes.
