Chaos Churns and Destroys – God Commands, “Be Still”
Mark 4:39 — “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Peace! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”
Psalm 107:29 — “He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.”
Job 41:1 — “Can you pull in Leviathan with a fishhook or tie down its tongue with a rope?”
Isaiah 51:9–10 — “Was it not you who cut Rahab to pieces, who pierced that monster through? Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep?”
Matthew 14:29–31 — “‘Come,’ he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat… But when he saw the wind, he was afraid… Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.”
Psalm 89:9 — “You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.”
Chaos has a name in Scripture: Leviathan, Rahab, the roaring deep—symbols of disorder, terror, and cosmic rebellion. But none are beyond Christ’s command. When Jesus walks on water, He doesn’t avoid the storm—He enters it to prove He owns it. Your anxiety, your crisis, your “impossible” situation—it’s not outside His jurisdiction. He doesn’t demand calm before He shows up. He brings calm because He is here. Call on Him. Step toward Him. Even if you sink, His hand is already reaching.
