Holding On To Trust in a Broken World—Wisdom, Not Naivety – Daily Redemption Bible Bulletin – 19 Jan 26

Jeremiah 17:9 — “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”

1 Corinthians 13:7 — “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

Proverbs 28:26 — “Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.”

Matthew 10:16 — “Be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”

Psalm 146:3–5 — “Do not put your trust in princes… Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob…”

Romans 12:18 — “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
Yes, the human heart is wicked—but that doesn’t mean we isolate. Scripture calls us to wise trust, not blind suspicion or foolish openness. We guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23), yet we love boldly—because love, rooted in Christ, “believes all things” (1 Cor. 13:7). We don’t trust people because they’re trustworthy, but because God can work through flawed vessels. And ultimately, our trust isn’t in people—it’s in the One who transforms them. So we extend grace, set boundaries when needed, and choose peace “as far as it depends on us”—all while anchoring our souls in the only truly faithful One.
Lord, give me discernment without cynicism. Help me love my neighbor without idolizing them. Let my trust flow from You—not fear, not naivety, but holy wisdom. Amen.

“Trust in a Broken World”
MARCUS stopped trusting people after his business partner stole everything.
Then he read Jeremiah 17:9: “The heart is deceitful above all things…”
So he built walls. Locked doors. Avoided eye contact.

But one Tuesday, Mrs. Ruiz from 3B left soup on his porch—no note, just warmth.
He almost threw it away.
Instead, he tasted it… and wept.

Not because people are good.
But because grace leaks through cracked hearts.

We don’t trust neighbors because they’re perfect.
We trust them because Christ lives in some of them—and His love is reliable, even when people aren’t.
