When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Turn to Jesus – DR Bible Bulletin 31 Jan 26

When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Turn to Jesus
Psalm 34:18 — “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Isaiah 41:10 — “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 — “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Psalm 46:1 — “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
John 16:33 — “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Real toughness isn’t stoicism—it’s surrender. It’s not white-knuckling through pain, but falling into the arms of the One who bore it all. When crisis hits, the world says “grit your teeth.” Scripture says “call His name.” Jesus doesn’t demand strength—He gives it to the weary who come to Him. Your breaking point isn’t your end—it’s where His power begins. So bring your brokenness to Him. The toughest thing you’ll ever do is admit you can’t do it alone—and run straight to Jesus.Painterly vertical image: early dawn light through a rain-streaked window, a man kneeling beside an unmade bed, head bowed, hands open on worn floorboards, empty bottle tipped over in shadow behind him—redemption in raw surrender; no darkness on the man, no text, no religious props.
lyrics by Zeb of Virginia Beach
from his song “Troubles”

I don’t want no trouble but troubles all I got
I don’t want no drama but drama is all I’ve got
Lord lift this trouble from me
Lord with this conflict I see
Lord I just want to be free
just want to be with thee

from his song “When The Troubles Come”

he will be there so we can rest a bit
he will be there to help us out of it

from his song “Troubles We Bring To Thee”

These troubles we bring to thee dear Lord
They are far too steep for such as we
May we put them on on your altar
These troubles we bring to thee

These troubles so heavy we might drown
they haunt us and drag us down
may we put them on your altar?
These troubles we bring to thee

These Troubles we bring to thee
These Troubles we bring to thee
dear Lord please set us free from
These Troubles we bring to thee

oh Jesus you are so gracious
dear Lord you have done so much I see
but still you stand faithful and ready to help us with
These troubles we bring to thee

from his song “Help Me Jesus”

embroiled in trouble entangled in sin
sinking down the world’s closing in
I reach out with my heartI reach out my soul
I give you the wheel you have the control
help me Jesus help me my king
remember to turn to you
when the storm clouds gather
help me my Lord if I turn to you
I know you’ll see me through

Lord, when I’m overwhelmed, pull me back to You. Let my first response be Your name—not my plan, not my pride. Meet me in my weakness with Your grace. Amen.
