In Genesis chapter 13, we see Abram (Abraham) and his nephew Lot parting ways to avoid conflict between their herds and herdsmen. Abram generously offers Lot first choice of the land, displaying humility and selflessness. This chapter holds a Messianic perspective as it foreshadows Jesus Christ, who would later come as the ultimate example of selflessness and humility. Just as Abram prioritized peace and unity over personal gain, Jesus would sacrifice Himself for the reconciliation of humanity with God. This chapter reminds us of the importance of putting others before ourselves and points to the ultimate act of love and self-sacrifice in the person of the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ.
