How to Rescue the Wandering Heart
Key Scripture:
Luke 15:4–7 — “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them… he goes after the lost sheep until he finds it.”
Galatians 6:1 — “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently.”
John 21:15–17 — Jesus’ restoration of Peter: “Do you love Me?”
James 5:19–20 — “If one of you should wander from the truth… whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death.”
Ezekiel 34:16 — “I will search for the lost and bring back the strays.”
Devotional Core:
Rescuing the wandering isn’t about confrontation—it’s about Christlike presence. Jesus didn’t shame Peter for his denial; He met him with a fire, fish, and a gentle question: “Do you love Me?” True restoration flows from humility, not superiority. We don’t pull people back with guilt—we draw them with grace, patience, and a life that whispers, “He’s worth returning to.” Keep your heart soft, your hands open, and your eyes on the Shepherd. He’s already going after them.
lyrics by Zeb of Virginia Beach Church
from his song “Goin Back to God”
I strayed and lost my way
I been wanderin both night and day
I feel so very much alone
I am so far away from home
I’m Goin back to God X 3
one of these days X3
I’m going back to God one of these days
when the light come shining through the haze
and the peaceful river flows pure the valley through
then I know exactly what I’ may do
Just like the prodigal son of the Bible days
i had it all and threw it all away
some day i’ll come back for what’s mine
i’ll eat the bread and drink the wine
I’m Goin back to God X 3
one of these days X3
Prayer:
Lord, I’ve wandered too.
So I won’t stand in judgment—only in intercession.
Give me eyes to see the lost like You do.
Hands to help, not point.
And a heart that stays near You,
so others can find their way home through Your light in me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Visual Direction:
Anonymous figure kneeling at dawn beside a quiet path — one hand outstretched toward the horizon, not pulling, just waiting. Soft golden light. No face. Earth tones. Stillness over urgency.
