The Unoffendable Heart
Key Scripture:
Romans 12:17–21 — “Do not repay anyone evil for evil… Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath.”
1 Corinthians 13:4–5 — “Love is patient, love is kind… It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”
Luke 23:34 — “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Proverbs 19:11 — “A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.”
Colossians 3:12–13 — “Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility… Bear with each other and forgive one another.”
Devotional Core:
An unoffendable heart isn’t indifference—it’s deep trust in God’s justice and grace. Jesus modeled this perfectly: mocked, betrayed, crucified—yet He never retaliated. He forgave. Why? Because He knew the Father saw everything. When we refuse to take offense, we declare: “God, I trust You with my reputation, my pain, and my story.” This isn’t weakness—it’s spiritual freedom. And it starts with one choice: “I will not let someone else’s brokenness steal my peace.”
lyrics by Zeb from Virginia Beach Church
from his song “My Old Fighting Ways”
I fight and I fight
on rare occasion I win
I’m knocked to the mat
then I’m up and fighting again
when all I could want
the Lord would send my way
if I could only let go of
my old Fighting ways
My old fighting ways X 2
Lord let me be free
from My Old Fighting Ways
You have filled me with joy
a new creature I am
in your light I am centered
in your truth I do stand
and so I do pray Lord
as the only price I can pay
someday I’ll leave buried
my old fighting ways
Prayer:
Lord, I’ve carried offenses like trophies of hurt.
But today, I lay them down.
Give me Your heart—slow to anger, quick to forgive.
Help me see people through Your eyes,
not my wounds.
Make me unoffendable—not because I’m strong,
but because You’re enough.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
