Jerusalem, Judgement, and Repentance in Isaiah 22–24
Welcome, a Prophecy About Jerusalem ‘Yerushalayim. ‘yerushah’ means inheritance, suggesting a connection to ownership or legacy. This ties into the biblical narrative where Jerusalem is seen as a divine gift to the Israelites. ‘Jeru’ could be derived from the root meaning ‘to throw’ or ‘to lay a foundation,’ emphasizing its foundational role. It represents hope, salvation, and perpetual longing. The longing for Jerusalem is also expressed in the phrase ‘Next year in Jerusalem,’ recited at the end of the Passover Seder. It is also not far removed from Jireh as in Jehovah Jireh as in the Lord will provide.
So when Abraham in Genesis gives a tithe to Melchizedek who is the king of Salem—he is the king not only of peace. Shalom-Salem—but also righteousness, so at the very least a type of Christ. And what are we talking about with Jerusalem? A lot of things. The ownership of righteousness and peace, the divine gift of righteousness and peace, the foundation of righteousness and peace, the hope of the salvation brought by righteousness and peace and the perpetual longing for these things and all the while the provisions of all things needful by the Lord.

## The Meaning For Our Lives: Isaiah 22–24## 1. Isaiah 22: The Valley of Vision and Eliakim
* Jerusalem Broken Down: To start Isaiah 22, Jerusalem is like New Orleans after Katrina—people are on the rooves of their homes and everything has broken down. In this case the leaders of Jerusalem have been taken captive without a battle.
* Party on the Titanic: While God called for weeping, wailing, and sackcloth, there was joy, revelry, eating meat, and drinking wine, saying, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” Jerusalem was going down like the Titanic while some danced and sang and imbibed.
* Eliakim as a Type of Christ: Eliakim son of Hilkiah is a type of Christ. The term “Father Jesus” which you see sometimes on literature is not mistaken—consider the trinity. God places on his shoulder the key to the house of David (picked up on by John in Revelation 3:7) and drives him like a peg into a firm place—an interesting choice of words to say the least, but talking about the strength of foundation of the authority of the one who will come.
## 2. Isaiah 23: Human Pride and Transhumanism
* A Warning Against Pride: A prophecy against Tyre could be a prophecy against our times because it is against human pride, military prowess, technology, and various attempts such as transhumanism to be more like God not by being closer to him, but trying to overpower and usurp his authority.
* The First Shall Be Last: Tyre is forgotten for seventy years and returns to lucrative prostitution with all kingdoms, yet her profit will be set apart for the Lord for those who live before Him. So the first shall be last and vice versa.
## 3. Isaiah 24: Devastation, Mindset Shifts, and Cosmic Warfare
* True Repentance is a Paradigm Shift: Another shift… this kind of shift exactly represents true repentance. Repentance is not being in despair about your sin and wickedness and praying for grace, mercy and forgiveness. Some of that is part of it, but what it really is, it is a paradigm shift—modern terms—a mindset shift, and one which embraces God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit at its center.
* Simultaneous Judgment and Salvation: Isaiah 24–27 is kaleidoscopic, shifting between praise and utter chaos. Judgment and salvation happen simultaneously: the very event that overthrows proud, oppressive empires is the exact event that liberates God’s people.
* Spiritual Warfare Behind Human Rebellion: When Paul writes in Ephesians 6:12 that our struggle is against powers in dark realms, he directly utilizes this exact Old Testament framework. When God cleanses the cosmos, He won’t just depose corrupt human politicians; He will strip the malicious spiritual forces driving them of their power—guerilla warfare conducted in an under-the-radar fashion.

## Messianic Significance: Something About Jesus
* The Key of David: Jesus holds the key to the house of David; what He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open.
* The Firm Peg: Jesus is the ultimate authority driven like a peg into a firm place, becoming a seat of honor for His Father’s house, bearing all the glory.
* Victory Over Spiritual Powers: Because Jesus has already broken the legal authority of cosmic rulers via the cross (Colossians 2:15), believers can now stand firm against their remaining guerrilla warfare.
