Shifting Toward God’s Favor: Refuge, Resurrection, and the Great Trumpet in Isaiah 25–27!

• A Shelter from the Ruthless: The breath of the ruthless drives against us like a storm beating against a stone wall, but the Lord steps in as a shade from the heat and a refuge from the storm. God systematically brings down worldly pride despite the cleverness of their hands, laying high fortified walls low into the dirt.
• The Death of Death: Verse 8 contains the ultimate promise: He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces and remove His people’s disgrace from the earth. In that day, we won’t be playing wiffleball or bingo; we will stand in absolute awe saying, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in him, and he saved us.”

• Perfect Peace in Chaos: God establishes peace for us; all that we have accomplished, He has actually done for us. Other lords—be they worldly rulers like Pharaoh and his magicians, or the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms—have ruled over us in the past, but their memory is wiped out. They are dead, they live no more.
• The Warning to the Blind: Verse 10 explicitly notes that when grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness, they go on doing evil. This sounds exactly like Jesus explaining how those He is not speaking to will not understand His parables, and how self-righteous religious leaders will face the terrifying words: “Be gone you workers of iniquity, I never knew you.”
• The Red Sea and Passover Echoes: Verse 19 stands as a direct prophecy of the dead saints rising up and walking around Jerusalem after the crucifixion (“Your dead will live, Lord; their bodies will rise”). Immediately after, God commands His people to enter their rooms and shut the doors to hide until the wrath passes by—completely echoic of the very first Passover night in Egypt.

• Slaying Chaos with the Word: The Lord unleashes His fierce, great, and powerful sword to punish Leviathan the gliding, coiling serpent, slaying the monster of the sea. What we have here clearly is the Lord using His Word, actually His Gospel, to slay evil and chaos.
• The Peaceful Vineyard: Once chaos is destroyed, the layout shifts to a fruitful vineyard. God declares, “I am not angry,” and incredibly extends an invitation to His very enemies to repent, turn back, and make peace with Him.
• Gathered One by One: The Lord promises to thresh from the Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, gathering His people up one by one. This is a meticulous rescue. In a massive, chaotic world, not a single individual who belongs to Him is overlooked, lost, or forgotten in the crowd.

• The Swallower of Death: Jesus perfectly fulfills Isaiah 25 by stepping into the grave, breaking its bars, and swallowing up death through His resurrection, wiping away eternal tears for any “whosoever” who trusts Him.
• The True Level Path: Christ is the Upright One who makes the way of the righteous smooth, keeping our minds in perfect peace when our spirits long for Him in the night.
• The Great Harvesting Trumpet: Jesus explicitly quotes the gathering imagery of Isaiah 27 in Matthew 24:31, confirming that He will send His angels with a loud trumpet call to gather His elect from the four winds, ensuring that those once exiled and perishing are brought safely to the holy mountain.
