If Solomon Fell, What Hope Do We Have?
1 Corinthians 10:13 — “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful…”
Ecclesiastes 2:11 — “Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done… everything was meaningless.”
1 Kings 11:4 — “As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods…”
James 4:7 — “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Hebrews 4:15 — “We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize… but one who has been tempted in every way, yet without sin.”
Proverbs 4:23 — “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Solomon’s life is a sobering warning: wisdom without worship leads to ruin. He had everything—yet let unchecked desire erode his devotion. But his failure doesn’t doom us—it points us to Jesus, who faced every temptation we do and never sinned. Our hope isn’t in our strength, but in His. We don’t fight lust, sin, or foolishness alone; we resist by abiding in Christ, relying on the Spirit, and clinging to Scripture. Grace isn’t permission to fail—it’s power to overcome.
lyrics by Zeb of Virginia Beach Church
from his song “Chasin’ The Wind (Ecclesiastes)”
i built my house with my own two hands
stacked the bricks by the shifting sands
but the tide rolls in, the tide rolls out
whats it all for? whats it about?
reachin out for something to hold
but it sifts through my fingers
leaves my heart stone cold
chasin the wind
all around
spins your soul
feel just like a clown
chasin the wind
for days untold
nothin to show
time to fold
and stop chasin the wind, chasin’ the wind
in the hot sun i sowed in richest soil
with hardest blood, sweat and toil
waitin on rain well the fields turned dry
i worked and i worked now i’m wonderin why
rocky ground on this road I’m on i played too slow and the moments gone
the river flows the valley through
always and forever what else could it do?
the wind it blows so the river flows
gets to the sea it’s never free. it’s just chasin’ the wind.
from his song “The Hightower of Prayer”
When the hard days and nights of life make us weak
When we’re broken and sadAnd the future looks bleak
We’ll meet by the gate We’ll knock on the door
And all of our worries Will be worries no more
So let’s go to our refuge The hightower of prayer
God’s holy spirit Will strengthen us there
So be thankful dear Christians And ready to share
To all who will listen Of the hightower of prayer
Hallelujah hallelujah Our voices we raise
To God be all glory To him be all praise
Lord, I can’t guard my heart alone. Anchor me in You. When temptation rises, remind me: my victory is in Christ, not my willpower. Amen.
