The Disaster of Doing What’s Right in Your Own Eyes
Welcome to The Daily Redemption for Tuesday, March 10, 2026 — where we confront the quiet rebellion of trusting our own judgment above God’s Word, even when the whole world calls it wisdom.
Opening Worship Lyrics Zeb of Virginia Beach Church:
from his song “Lord help me live the righteous life”
street lights city lights dark of night
visions come from out of sight
temptations knockin but i locked the door
how long? how long can i fight this war?
i stumble i tumble i rise again
this road is rocky but i’ll reach the end
Lord help me live this righteous life
pierce through my darkness with your Holy light
I’m slippin and slidin but I’m holding tight
Lord help me live this righteous life
a mustard seed of faith can move the mountain
but the dead seeds pile up near the fountain
narrow door it beckons but feels out of reach
every step i take feels like a breech
Judges 21:25 In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.
Proverbs 3:5–7 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.
Isaiah 5:20–21 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.
Romans 1:21–22 For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.
Everyone does it. You do it. I do it. We weigh options, consult feelings, follow intuition—and call it discernment. But Scripture calls it folly. Not because our minds are useless, but because our hearts are bent toward self-preservation, not surrender. “Doing what’s right in my own eyes” feels like freedom—but it’s slow drift into isolation, confusion, and ruin. The path that appears right often leads to broken relationships, moral compromise, and spiritual emptiness. Only one path leads to life: the one marked by humility, submission, and daily dependence on God’s Word—not our shifting opinions. The world trusts its gut. The wise trust their King.
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve called my preferences “conviction” and my comfort “wisdom.” Tear down the throne I’ve built in my own mind. Give me courage to obey when it doesn’t make sense. And anchor me in Your Word—not my whims. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
