No, Jesus Did Not Guarantee You A Shiny New Bicycle. Just Something Better

Sun rays burst through dynamic clouds creating a dramatic sky scene.

I was recovering from my highly publicized (in my bulletins lol) almost near death experience in the hospital which is why I look like poo poo.
Still the video received 5.1k views last week so it must have some value. I think it is my all time high views.

Transcript:

When Jesus says, anything that you ask for in my name will be given unto thee by the Father, He’s not talking about a new bicycle. He’s talking about eternal glory. He’s also talking about how He is in the Father and the Father is in Him and they are one, but Jesus is also in us and we are also in Jesus.

So the context here is that God loved Jesus even before the world was created and that Jesus is saying that we should have the same glory.

(meaning because of our faith, because when the Father sees us He sees the sacrificial atoning blood of Jesus and because in spite of all our best efforts to mess things up God still loves His creation. so some day undeserved rewards will rain upon us)
note: see the corroborating scripture and commentaries below

Classic Commentaries Corner
  • “When Christ promises that whatsoever we ask in His name shall be given, He is not providing a blank check for worldly lusts or carnal desires. He is inviting us into the grand design of the Father’s eternal glory, so that our prayers may be the breathings of His own Spirit within us, perfectly aligned with His divine will.” — John Wesley
  • “The mystical union between Christ and the believer is the ultimate mystery of grace: Christ in the Father, the Father in Christ, and Christ in us. When the Father looks upon a broken creation, He does not see our failures; He sees the atoning blood of His Son, making us partakers of a glory that existed before the world began.” — Matthew Henry
  • “We must completely shatter the consumerist notion that prayer is a means to secure earthly comfort. Divine grace means that we, who deserve nothing but judgment, are clothed in the righteousness of Christ, ensuring that eternal, undeserved rewards will rain upon us in the kingdom to come.” — A.W. Tozer
  • “To ask in the name of Christ means to ask with the mind and character of Christ ruling our hearts. It is the prayer of a new creation, recognizing that our true inheritance is not temporary material gain, but the very presence and glory of God dwelling inside our mortal flesh.” — Adam Clarke
